I think you mean Freya initiating Odin? Although it seems Frigg knows more than Odin… c.f. the myth of how the Langobards got their name for example.

Hi again, sorry to pepper your site with so many notes, but you’ve inspired thought. *shock*

Have been reading about the saxon pantheon online this morning and was quite astonished by some of the goddesses and gods. Gotta love Freya! ;-)

What’s your take on Frigga initiating Odin into a wisdom tradition?

And what do you think of the idea of all these cross dressing gods in the midst of hyper-masculine Australian “locker-room” culture?

Hey Crowlie – no worries re: your misunderstanding!

I heartily agree with you on the subjects of dogma and doing your own research. As you can gather, I’m pretty into the whole reconstructed (heathen)magic project (which can easily get dogmatic); but I’m also into the anything-goes attitude (which can easily get silly).

My conclusion is that it isn’t what philosophy one adopts but whether one gets dogmatic or silly with it that really matters ;-)

I’ve never read tarot – there’s so many cards! I’d just be overwhelmed.

Point noted regarding Wyrd… hmmm.. I’ll have to think about that!

Interesting. I’ve been using Tarot for some time on an intuitive basis that sounds similar to that used by your lovely partner. However I’m also influenced by quite a bit of psychology, so there’s some overlap. You’ve convinced me to take up runes and give them a try.

I’d love to read more about your ideas on Wyrd.

Finally, the comment about not being lore locked makes a lot of sense. That’s one of the best things about the current “anything goes” social situation, we don’t have to accept dogma but are free to do our own research and develop better methods and understandings. That’s why I’m a neo-Pagan :D
