Good point. It sounds terribly Freudian, but I think it is fair to say that it is emotions that motivate humans to do, join, value and act. The intellectual aspect of Heathenry is valuable, but remains awfully dry without love. How often do we find Heathens talking about love for the Gods that inspire them, to whom they relate or experience as a part of their/our lives. Is it because it might sound too Christian or too 'fluffy'? I don't see many who claim a fulltrui relationship to be doing much in the way of talking.

To be fair, I don't do a lot of talking or writing about the relationship I have with Woden, or with Frija, Freya or other wights who I hold dear. There hasn't been much of a Heathen word-horde for articulating such things ... yet. Another project?

Heathenry without love will always have the danger of falling into the traps of Ariosophy - as the dark history of modern times has already amply demonstrated to all of us and left behind generations of scarred souls, which are expected to continue.

On the esoteric level, the true test of love is whether one can love a stranger. Many a great philanthropist has found himself in distant lands and unfamiliar cultures and dedicates his life to ameliorate the conditions of life of the other, because on the planetary level, existence itself is often a very cruel event. Modern heathenry is in its early days yet - and we can assiduously avoid the grave errors that our recent predecessors have made - and let us hope that we will see more philanthropists stemming from our faith.
