Wonderful article, thank you.
But unfortunately, many occultists nowadays believe some old traditional mystery schools of the west to be "right hand", but in fact they follow neither right nor left hand paths and also both paths at the same time. You must know that the qabalah which is used today in western mystery schools comes from the shabbatian tradition which in its heart is antinomian.

In tantra the highest commandment - for lack of a better word - is never to insult or mistreat a woman, because she is the embodiment of the divine feminine. This ancient Indo-European moral code is also adopted among serious practitioners of tantric Buddhism today, namely the Kalachakra Tantra tradition in Tibetan Buddhism. In ancient tantra, however, femininity was worshipped in its entirety, and not in the more abstract form of modern Tibetan Buddhism. For example, among ancient tantrikas, a magic circle was drawn with the menstrual blood of the teacher (which became a taboo in the history of Buddhism).

The divine feminine was also evident in ancient heathenry. A careful reading of "Hávamál" will show that Gunnlöð is an important source of wisdom and magic for Óðin - she is their embodiment, to which the All-Father must return again and again in order to keep his greatness. In "The Saga of the People of Eyri", woman is referred to as the "treasure-seat", which alludes to the high seat of the seeress. Again in "Hávamál", Gunnlöð allows Óðin to sit on her "golden seat": the gateway to the understanding of the mysteries of the cosmos and earth. To ordinary mortals, these are all "ĺ rúnum", i.e. concealed as esoteric secrets. This has some relation to the runes being a language of secrets.

Well said, Matt! That is similar to how I look at my belief and practice as well.

In "Parmenides", Heidegger has inspiring things to say about ethos: that it is grounded in the people (Volk) and the place they live in.

Thanks for welcoming me in your club in Australia - at least on the "cyber" level. I hope we see eachother also physically one day. As to the power thing: one of the accusations against chaos magic has been that it shows a path to power without "balancing" it with a model or an ethics how to use it. I think I'm too heathen to be a chaos magician & too chaos-magical to be just a heathen. Hence Chaos Heathen is such a perfect "solution". In this essay I concentrated very much on a LHP perspective. As Heathens we have our Virtues and mythic models, which can give us an advice how to use power in an honourable way. In this way heathen sorcerers should be "Volksfreunde" to a certain degree, basically guardians of the folk. An important issue I will probably go into at some point in one of my articles.

Thanks! Great to be on board with you all...

Willkommen in Australien - well, on the "cyber" and the spiritual level! I enjoyed reading your reflections on a range of subjects that converge on the nature and meaning of practical magic in the chaos genre. Looking forward to reading more, and alles Gute!

One comment: power needs to be balanced by ethos or it will consume the magus. For example, there is an art to lighting fires properly without modern technological aid. The Ureinwohner (indigenous inhabitants) of the Australian continent certainly know what this means.

What is the purpose of it all? The Indo-European understanding of enlightenment comes to mind as a possibility. Perhaps simply to dance on the web of wyrd, and to be able to do that in a state of egoless bliss will certainly be enligtening!
